A Fresh Lunar New Year

Greetings in this Tibetan New Year (Losar), 2021! February 12th marked the beginning of the lunar new year: The Year of the Iron Ox.

The Ox symbolizes honesty, responsibility, tenacity and quiet strength — as well as gentleness. The element of Iron is characterized by integrity, justice and clarity.

As we rest in the stillness of Winter, and acknowledge our “itch” for Spring, what is waiting to be born in us and in our community? How are we nurturing that which is to grow in and around us? How might we breathe the energies of the Iron Ox into life in our practice, and in our world?

Please join us for a fresh new, open-to-all meditation practice: Stillness to Sanity, to be held every Monday evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Sit with welcoming community, in silent meditation and in the sharing of inquiry and insight. The Zoom link and more details for the sessions are available here.

Though activities at Shambhala Pittsburgh remain online-only for the time being, ongoing affinity groups continue to connect with and support one another through practice, inspired inquiry and rich discussion:

Finally, to recap some recent administrative news, in December, 2020, a transition team of Shambhala Pittsburgh members formed to continue basic Center caretaking duties, and inhabit a gentle guiding role as the community continues to address some long-held questions. You can read a statement from the transition team here.

If the energies of Iron Ox are inspiring you to offer and host a virtual practice, study, reading or discussion group – even a one-time gathering to discuss a film or reconnect with community – we’d be happy to hear about it and help you set it up! Please feel free to reach out to the team with ideas or any questions you may have at [email protected].

Losar Tashi Delek!
(Happy Lunar New Year!)
