Aging as Spiritual Practice

Please note: Shambhala Pittsburgh will be closed for some period as we collectively care for each other by practicing social distancing.

We are now working on making some or all of our ongoing programs accessible online, including Aging as Spiritual Practice.  We look forward to gathering together virtually while the center is closed.

Zoom online meeting etiquette for all participants:  We ask that folks not click on the link below until 5 minutes before the scheduled start time of each session.  This allows others to use the account at other times.  Please “mute” your microphone when you are not directly speaking– this cuts down on background noise and interference.  To do this click on the microphone button in the bottom left-hand corner of the zoom interface. (A red line through it means you are muted.)  Don’t forget to unmute yourself when it is your turn to speak!

All are welcome!  Donations are gratefully accepted but not required.

Aging as Spiritual Practice – First Thursdays monthly, 6:30-8:30 pm – Contact Marian or Jane for Zoom Link

Join us on the 1st Thursday of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Shambhala Meditation Center. This ongoing group explores the naturally beautiful, rich and sometimes painful, sad or difficult aspects of the aging process   Our expressed intention is to become more mindful and grow our participation in this unfolding dance of life and death.

Our evenings have included meditation, reading, rich & heartfelt discussion, a movie, a field trip to the Green Burial Cemetery, inquiry into various topics, laughter and of course, snacks. We are gradually developing a list of resource materials relevant to Aging as Spiritual Practice.  Although founded in Buddhist principles of authentic goodness, this is not specifically a Buddhist group. Diverse people of any faith or age are welcome.

There is no need to register. Just bring yourself and perhaps a friend, if they are interested, too!

Please check the website prior to each group gathering, just in case there is a last minute cancellation.

If you have any questions or would like to be added to our mailing list, please contact Jane or Marian.
