Contentment in Everyday Life provides an exploration of genuine contentment, the foundational views of the Buddhist teachings, and meditation in action for daily life.

We all experience thoughts or feelings of inadequacy, that nagging sense that we're just not good enough. This atmosphere of self-judgment can build until there's a palpable tension between our basic sense of self-worth and who we think we "should" be. Insecurities may always arise, but when we interpret these thoughts and feelings as cold hard facts to be acted upon, dissatisfaction devours our time and energy, and life becomes a chore.

By letting go of the struggle to be something "better," we can make space for our inherently intelligent, compassionate, and strong nature to flourish. 

In this course, students will continue to learn basic mindfulness meditation and receive a contentment contemplation to study and practice. In addition, the five-class course offers instruction on the following topics: making friends with ourselves; resting in the present moment; meeting obstacles; working with strong emotions. Each class includes a guided meditation and/or contemplation, a short talk or teaching, and time for a discussion about how the material relates to daily life.

About the Path

The Everyday Life classes and the Levels I-V are an extensive path of training in authentic meditation practices and wisdom teachings created for the challenges of modern, everyday existence. The program is open to people of all religious backgrounds or no religious background. It is recommended for new and experienced meditators as well as those looking to enrich their personal spiritual path and social action. Please note that the Everyday Life classes and the Levels are ideally taken during the same period for a complete and deep experience.

The Everyday Life series—five courses, usually offered in weekly classes in each, provide a complete overview of the path of meditation and spiritual teachings. Because the teachings continually deepen, each class is a prerequisite for the next. Classes include: Meditation in Everyday Life, Contentment in Everyday Life, Joy in Everyday Life, Fearlessness in Everyday Life, and Wisdom in Everyday Life.

Levels I through V — a series of secular meditation weekend workshops, suited for both beginning and experienced meditators. These five workshops include meditation training and practice, talks by senior instructors, personal meetings with an instructor, and group discussions. Because the teachings continually deepen, each level is a prerequisite for the next. Levels include: The Art of Being Human, Discover Your Inner Warrior, Warrior in the World, Awakened Heart, Open Sky.

Rigden: Unconditional Confidence – The Rigden weekend is the culmination of the Everyday Life courses and Levels I-V. The Rigden is a representation of our enlightened nature and embodies the principle of unconditional confidence.  Historically, Rigdens were enlightened rulers – those who could “rule their world” based on their unwavering experience of basic goodness.
