Basic Goodness and Heavy Hearts: A Community Gathering for Friends of Shambhala Pittsburgh

In late June, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche was named in an independent report alleging past incidents of sexual misconduct with women in the Shambhala community. The Sakyong has decided to step back from his administrative and teaching responsibilities within Shambhala during the independent investigation of these allegations.

Though the last reported incident of misconduct involving the Sakyong occurred seven years ago, and this behavior is not understood to be ongoing, many questions about governance and accountability are still evolving and for now remain unclear.

Here in Pittsburgh, despite the anguish and uncertainty, among our Shambhala members and friends we have witnessed numerous expressions of care, kindness, shared wisdom, and renewed commitments to compassion and justice. We maintain an unflagging dedication to the benefits of meditation practice and the profound view that human beings are fundamentally wise, awake, and good.

On Thursday, July 12, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., we are holding a Community Gathering, providing space for those who wish to feel, discuss, and begin to process what these events may mean for them. We invite you to join us.  Registration is not required
